<image:caption>Oil, oil pastel, charcoal, and graphite on paper, 24" x 30" Inspired by Cuban newspapers from the 1950s that reference my maternal grandfather during his time as Director General de Deportes in pre-revolutionary Cuba, the text in this series of drawings contrasts my own memories of him with his portrayal in the media, embodying how Cuban Americans travel to Cuba only to find that reality often differs from memory.   </image:caption>

      <image:title>Projects - Grandpa, tell me your memories, 2015 - present</image:title>
<image:caption>When I was a child, my grandfather, a native of Jatibonico, Cuba, and I began to answer the questions in Memories with Grandpa, an interactive book filled with questions to be posed from grandchild to grandfather. While we completed the first few pages of the book, the rest remained unfinished due to my grandfather's death when I was twelve. Through conversations with those who knew him best in both Cuba and the U.S., I answered the unanswered questions posed in the book we began long ago. I explore not only how memory can re-create an experience but also how it blurs the lines between fact and fiction.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Work - 23 Years Later, 2015</image:title>
<image:caption>Single channel video, 00:05:03 23 Years Later recreates a walk I would take as a child with my grandfather in the early 1990s. On Saturday mornings, we would go on what at the time seemed like a lengthy trek from our home to La Campana, a local convenience store which served as a hub for an older generation of Cuban men to smoke cigars and talk politics. Today, both La Campana and my grandfather are long gone. My family has also moved from the house in Miami where I was raised. Taking cues from the work of Dara Friedman and Francis Alys, 23 Years Later considers the resilience of memory and how we confront the passage of time.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Silvi Naci, pictured above, performed her work, "SALT." In Albania, when someone has been given the evil eye, women use salt to cleanse, heal and repeal the negative energy by throwing salt on a hot plate and murmuring prayers to repel any bad vibrations. In order to keep away the evil eye, one can wear a small safety pin holding an evil eye and a small piece of garlic. Throughout the evening, this service was offered to participants.</image:caption>
